Here we are in Pioneer Square at the
Fire Festival (on the same day as the
Chinatown/International District Summer Fest, as well as the Ballard Seafood Fest, etc.). The Seattle Fire and Police Department were present, as well as many vintage vehicles.
Pictured here is a rookie. Occidental Park makes for a wonderful location for such family friendly events. Notice in the background, there is an oversized chess board and pieces.

I like to color just like the next kid, but I didn't want to get stuck, so I didn't hop in, even though the nice fireman invited me to.

Here's West Precinct Captain Steve Brown representing the Seattle Police Department.
All eyes were on the vintage cars though. No trouble here, officer. Just looking at your cars.
Now, here's a suggestion for next year. Why not come up with some vintage police and fire uniforms? Wouldn't that be neat?

Well, it wouldn't be Pioneer Square without someone panning for gold. I don't think she was really into it though. The man dropped a gold ingot for her to find and I think she just wanted a cookie from the nearby Starbucks. Oh well, you can't win them all. Seattle wouldn't be Seattle if it wasn't for all those gold prospectors. Those pioneers knew what they were doing. Get rich selling them all the equipment and if they actually find something, get rich by letting them splurge.

I wasn't sure if this was just for show, but the heat wasn't too bad and I thought I could make it to get my toasted Chonga bagel with butter and a grande iced Refresh tea. You can probably guess where I was ready to go to.

You want to know something weird? That fireman was 'on break' right before I took the picture, but when I started to take the picture,
he started to work. What's he worried about? He's in the union!

The Seattle Department of Transportation puts these Wayfinding kiosks around town to help people, well, find their way. At the time of this post, this one was removed. Was it hit by a truck? I hope it returns. Tourists love these things.

Here's the iconic
Smith Tower. There's an observation deck that's neat. And if you're looking for a Chonga bagel, you can get one at the base. The tower was tall for its time when it was built. When I think of the Smith Tower, I think of Seattle. There's all sorts of neat and historic buildings in Pioneer Square. If you haven't been in awhile, you should stop by.
