The
Summer Fest draws a lot of people and it's a good way to meet all your neighbors. You know you're in Chinatown when you can witness people playing Chinese Chess (xiangqi). My father taught me when I was a little kid. Here they are sitting on a bench in Hing Hay Park. Other parks or spaces have oversized chess pieces (almost two feet tall) with large chessboards where people can gather and play. Perhaps, they should make an oversized Chinese chessboard with oversized Chinese chess pieces and put them in the park. Imagine who would come out of the woodwork.

Here they are serving Hawaiian shave ice. Not 'shaved ice,' but shave ice. It was a nice and sunny Seattle summer day so this would hit the spot for all festival goers.

Here's some guy singing Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours.' He was actually pretty good. He was there with his brother. There were judges there who were really generous. It's in Chinatown, so you've got to have karaoke, right?

Here's Don giving out information to a festival goer. He's usually in a suit and tie. He's actually the Executive Director of the
Chinatown/International District Business Improvement Area, the organization that put this festival together. Way to go, Don and all the other volunteers and helpers.

Here's Hing Hay Park. No large Chinese chess pieces or a chessboard. Lots of drums though . . .
